Naturalization Attorney In North Carolina
What Do I Need To Do To Apply For U.S. Citizenship?
Becoming a U.S. citizen is an important milestone — one that comes after years of living, working, and contributing to your community in the United States. If you’ve held a green card (lawful permanent resident status) for at least five years, you may be eligible to apply for citizenship through the naturalization process.
If you are married to a U.S. citizen, you may qualify after just three years of permanent residency. Other eligibility requirements include:
- Continuous residence in the U.S. for the required period
- Demonstrating good moral character
- Passing English language and civics tests covering U.S. history and government
Once approved, you’ll enjoy nearly all the same rights and privileges as natural-born citizens — including the right to vote, apply for a U.S. passport, and sponsor family members for immigration.
At The Emory Law Firm, P.C., we take pride in helping clients navigate the path to citizenship with confidence. Our attorneys guide you through every stage — from preparing your application to ensuring you’re ready for your interview and exam.

How Do I Start the Process?
When you schedule your first appointment with The Emory Law Firm, P.C., our immigration team will carefully review your background to confirm that you meet the eligibility requirements for U.S. naturalization. If you qualify, we’ll guide you step-by-step through the entire process.
We’ll help you gather all necessary information and documentation to complete Form N-400, the official application for U.S. citizenship. If additional records are needed to support your case, we’ll provide a detailed checklist and assist you in obtaining them. To help you feel confident, we’ll also share sample interview questions and preparation tips so you know exactly what to expect during your citizenship interview.
Once everything is ready, we’ll assist you in completing and submitting your N-400 form to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and stay by your side through every stage of the process.

What Will Happen at My Interview?
When it’s time for your naturalization interview, preparation is key — and The Emory Law Firm, P.C. will make sure you feel ready and confident.
You’ll need to bring your green card and a state-issued ID or driver’s license to verify your identity. During the interview, a USCIS officer will review the information you provided on your Form N-400 and ask you to confirm that it’s accurate. If anything has changed — such as your address, marital status, or employment — you’ll need to explain those updates and, when required, provide documentation to support them.
Next, you’ll answer a series of questions similar to those asked during your green card interview. The officer will also test your English and civics knowledge by asking you to read one sentence aloud, write one dictated sentence, and answer 10 questions about U.S. government and history. You only need to answer six correctly to pass.
While this may sound intimidating, it doesn’t have to be. Our attorneys will help you prepare for every step of the interview — from reviewing your answers to practicing the civics questions — so you can walk in feeling relaxed and confident. If you’re ready to take the next step toward citizenship, contact The Emory Law Firm, P.C. today to schedule your naturalization consultation.
